FAQ
Questions & answers
Straight answers, grounded in what the product does today.
What channels does the platform support?
Two-way channels in one shared inbox: SMS and MMS, a website chat widget, inbound and outbound phone calls, two-way email, WhatsApp Business, Apple Messages for Business, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, X (Twitter) DMs, and Yelp 'Message the Business' leads — plus inbound lead capture from LinkedIn, Facebook Lead Ads and TikTok lead forms. Every one lands on the same contact. The point is that you stop bouncing between apps and tabs to keep up with customers. Whichever channel someone reaches out on, your team replies from the same place, with the full history in view. Customers get to use whatever they prefer, and you still run it all as one organized system.
How does the platform unify all my channels?
Every channel a customer uses — text, web chat, email, phone, WhatsApp, Apple Messages, Facebook and Instagram — flows onto a single contact record as one continuous conversation. So a customer who texts today, DMs on Instagram next week, and calls the week after is always the same person, with one timeline your whole team can see. Nobody has to ask them to repeat themselves, and nothing gets lost because it came in on a different app. That unification is the heart of the product: scattered messages in, one clear conversation out.
Can my whole team work from one inbox?
Yes — the shared inbox is built for teams, not just a single owner. Anyone can claim a conversation so it's clear who's handling it, assign or transfer threads to the right person, and flag conversations for follow-up so nothing slips. Real-time updates mean two people never step on each other or double-reply, and the full history travels with the conversation as it changes hands. Managers can see how fast customers are getting answered and where things pile up, so the team stays accountable without micromanaging.
What does SM2.IO mean?
The name is the whole product in three parts. SM is Short Messages — texting is how today's customers actually want to reach a business, so it's the heartbeat of everything here. The 2 is 'to' — short messages TO every customer, on every channel, from one place. And IO is Input/Output: SM2 doesn't just send texts, it takes every scattered message coming IN and turns it into organized, actionable data going OUT — searchable records, AI call summaries, review results, payment status, survey scores and analytics you can actually run the business on. Short messages to everyone; insight and action out.
Is this a real phone system or just texting?
It's a full business phone system, not a texting app with a dial button. You get extensions, ring groups and ACD, an IVR phone-menu builder, time-based routing with failover, granular voicemail boxes and blind or warm call transfer — the kind of setup big companies pay a separate vendor for. Every call can be transcribed, summarized and sentiment-scored, and it all sits next to the same customer's texts and emails. So whoever answers already knows the history, and no caller gets bounced around or forgotten.
How does it help me get more reviews, get paid faster, and never miss a lead?
These are the everyday wins small businesses feel first. Automated, tracked review invitations by text go out at the moment customers are happiest, so you can gather far more 5-star reviews than you ever would by asking by hand. Text-to-pay links and itemized invoices get read and paid in minutes instead of sitting unopened in email, which speeds up your cash flow. And missed-call auto-text-back plus the website chat widget catch the leads that used to slip away, turning missed calls and anonymous visitors into live conversations in your shared inbox.
Do I need technical skills to set it up?
No — it's built for busy owners, not IT departments. Signup is self-serve with email and SMS verification, and you're working from a real inbox within minutes, no sales call required. The website chat widget drops onto any site with a single line of code, and connecting channels like WhatsApp or Google Business Profile is guided step by step. If you can use your phone and your email, you can run this.
How is this different from just using my phone or a shared email inbox?
A personal phone and a shared email address fall apart the moment more than one person needs to help a customer — you lose history, miss messages, and never know who replied. This platform gives every conversation a shared home the whole team can see, claim and hand off, across every channel instead of just one. On top of that you get things a phone and inbox simply can't do: a full phone system, text-to-pay, automated review requests, campaigns, and analytics that turn all those conversations into data. It's the difference between improvising and actually running a system.
How do payments work?
You send a secure payment link over SMS backed by secure, PCI-compliant card checkout (with fraud protection and dispute resolution built in), or issue an itemized invoice with line items and due dates — and the customer pays in a tap, no separate portal or login. Because texts get read fast, payment links sent this way tend to get paid much sooner than emailed invoices. Refunds, disputes and reconciliation are built in, so you're not stitching together another tool. And every payment status links straight back to the customer's record, so your conversations and your books finally line up.
Can customers pay and I collect reviews automatically?
Yes, and running them together is where it really pays off. You can text-to-pay to close out a job, then automatically send a tracked review invitation right after — catching the customer at their happiest moment. Google Business Profile reviews sync back so you can read and respond to them from the same inbox, and you can see which requests drove which reviews. It turns a finished job into both cash collected and public proof that wins the next customer.
What about WhatsApp and Apple Messages?
Both WhatsApp Business and Apple Messages for Business are supported as native, two-way channels — not screenshots or workarounds. Messages from either land in the same shared inbox as your texts, calls and emails, on the same unified contact. That means you can talk to customers on the modern channels they already prefer, with the same team workflow and full history you use everywhere else. It's a big part of talking to every customer like a big brand.
Is it compliant for business texting?
Yes, and compliance is handled for you rather than left as your problem. The platform takes care of A2P 10DLC registration, enforces opt-out (STOP/START) on every automated send, and applies quiet-hours and per-number throttle guardrails so you don't accidentally over-message. It also keeps an insert-only TCPA consent audit trail and splits marketing from transactional consent. You get the reach of business texting with the guardrails that keep you on the right side of the rules.
Do you support multiple locations?
Yes — multi-location businesses run under one organization account, managed from a single login (up to 25 locations). Each location keeps its own number and inbox so it holds the local presence customers expect, while you oversee the whole business together. The first location is included in your plan; each additional location bills monthly at a flat per-plan price, shown in the pricing table on the pricing page. Your roles and team structure carry across every location.
How much does it cost?
Plans are published up front at $199/month (Basic), $299/month (Premium) and $499/month (Pro) — no custom quote or annual-only contract needed just to see a price. Phone numbers, vanity and toll-free numbers, and additional locations are clearly-listed add-ons. That transparency means you can budget with confidence and know exactly what you'll pay as you grow. See the pricing page for the full matrix.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — and it's a live free trial, not a sandbox demo. You get a real account with real numbers and real sending, so you experience the product exactly as a paying customer would, right down to texting a real phone. That means you can prove the value on your own customers before you commit a dollar. It simply converts to a monthly subscription when the trial ends.
How does billing work?
Everything runs on a simple monthly subscription — no long-term contract required. Your plan bills monthly, and add-ons like extra numbers, additional locations, the AI auto-reply add-on and call recording each carry a one-time setup fee plus a monthly charge, all listed openly. Because the pricing is flat and transparent, there are no surprise overages hiding in a quote. You always know what next month's bill will look like.
Can I use my own branding?
Yes — the platform is fully white-label. Your business name, logo, colors, favicon and support details apply across the app and the website chat widget, so customers see you, not a third-party tool. That consistent, professional presence is part of how a small business gets to look and feel like a big brand. It's your platform, wearing your brand.
Does it integrate with the tools I already use?
Yes — it's designed to fit into your existing stack rather than replace everything. You can drop Shopify product links straight into a text or email, connect Mailchimp or Constant Contact for email sends, and sync Google Business Profile for reviews. For anything custom, outbound webhooks and inbound API triggers with managed tokens let the platform talk to your other systems automatically. Your customer conversations stop being an island and start feeding the tools you already run on.
